Implementation of temporary importation declaration requirement for motor vehicles entering South Africa

SARS wishes to inform you of the upcoming enforcement of the requirement for all foreign-registered motor vehicles, including those from SACU countries, to complete a temporary importation declaration when entering South Africa.

During this time, you may experience intermittent serviceinterruption on our eFiling, Tax and Customs Digital Platforms.

Saturday, 11 April 2026 from 17h00 to 21h00.

During this time, you may experience intermittent serviceinterruption on our eFiling, Tax and Customs Digital Platforms.

An issue is being experienced with some Customs Supporting Documents ID codes resulting in successfully submitted supporting documents not attaching to cases.

This will be evidenced by not receiving a CUSRES 33 confirming the attachment of the token-id as was received on the submission.

The issue is mainly related to the use of Document ID code “TRD”.

If this code was used, please resubmit supporting documents using another code as per the below list.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Please use the codes as listed below until further notice while this is being addressed. We will advise once the issue has been addressed.
